The Vatican says Pope John Paul II has returned to the hospital with an apparent relapse of the flu.
Vatican officials say the pontiff returned Thursday, to Rome's Gemelli hospital, where he spent 10 days earlier this month with acute breathing problems caused by the flu.
The Vatican had recently said Pope John Paul was making a strong recovery after leaving the hospital two weeks ago.
He appeared frail on Wednesday while making his longest public appearance since leaving the hospital.
