Kansas Police Say Suspect Arrested in 1970s, 1980s Serial Killings

Police in the central US state of Kansas say they have arrested a suspect they believe is a serial killer responsible for attacks dating back as far as three decades.

Authorities in the city of Wichita made the announcement Saturday. The notorious killer nicknamed himself "BTK" for bind, torture, kill. He has been linked to eight deaths from 1974 to 1986.

A person claiming to be the killer had sent messages to the media and police. The communication stopped for some years, but was re-established last year.

Officials say the suspect was pulled over during a routine traffic stop and arrested without incident. The individual has been identified as a 59-year-old municipal worker from a nearby town.
