Suspect Arrested in Atlanta Killings of Judge, Federal Agent, 2 Others

Authorities in Georgia have captured a man suspected of killing three people at an Atlanta courthouse Friday, as well as a federal agent who was found dead Saturday.

Officials say Brian Nichols, 33, surrendered without incident Saturday at an apartment complex north of Atlanta where he had taken a female resident hostage. They say the resident called police.

Authorities say the suspect on Friday seized a handgun from a sheriff's deputy as he was being escorted to his trial on rape and several other charges.

Officials say he shot and seriously wounded the deputy, then opened fire in the courtroom, killing the judge and a court reporter, and later a deputy who tried to stop him as he was fleeing.

The arrest followed what authorities described as largest manhunt ever for a suspect in the state of Georgia.
