NBA: Coach Davis Fired From Orlando Magic

Johnny Davis has been fired as coach of the National Basketball Associations' Orlando Magic. Assistant Chris Jent will take over as interim coach.

Orlando has lost six straight games and is on the verge of falling from playoff contention, but Davis said the firing caught him completely off guard. He was dismissed hours after Wednesday night's 110-102 road loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, dropping the Magic to 31-33 and leaving the club tied with Philadelphia for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Davis had been Orlando's coach since November of 2003. His overall record with the Magic was 51 wins and 84 losses.

In the offseason, the team traded all-star forward Tracy McGrady to the Houston Rockets. Orlando had showed improvement before its recent slump.
