US Men Top Honduras in International Friendly Soccer Match

The U.S. men's soccer team has defeated Honduras, 1-0, in an international friendly match in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Ed Johnson of Major League Soccer's Dallas Burn was the lone goal scorer in the 45th minute. Clint Mathis had sent a shot into the box from 35 meters out, which rebounded off the crossbar. The play left Honduras's goalkeeper out of position, and Johnson was able to score.

The victory was the 55th for coach Bruce Arena since he took over the national team in 1998. Arena is also the first man to coach 100 games with the U.S. men's national team. He has a record of 55 wins, 23 losses and 22 draws.

The match was also a key warm-up for the U.S. team's next World Cup qualifying match against Mexico March 27. The U.S. men then host Guatemala in Birmingham, Alabama March 30.
