A German court has found a Tunisian citizen not guilty of planning terrorist attacks but convicted him on lesser charges that include illegal possession of a firearm.
The Berlin court Wednesday sentenced 34-year-old Ihsan Garnaoui to three years and nine months in prison but threw out the terrorist charges for lack of evidence.
Prosecutors said Garnaoui, who was arrested in 2003, once trained at an al-Qaida camp in Afghanistan. They said he planned to attack U.S. or Jewish targets two years ago.
Separately, a Dutch court has acquitted an 18-year-old suspected Islamic militant of plotting terrorist attacks against several landmarks, including the Dutch parliament.
Prosecutors had requested a seven-year prison sentence for Samir Azzouz, a Dutch national of Moroccan origin. They say Mr. Azzouz also had links to the man accused of killing filmmaker Theo van Gogh last November.
