Britain Temporarily Bans First-Time Visa for Nigerians

update

Officials in Britain have decided to impose a temporary ban on entry visas for young Nigerians visiting Britain for the first time.

British visa officers announced Monday that entry visas from Nigerians aged between 18 and 30, will not be accepted until at least next year.

Officials say Nigeria currently has an 80 percent visa refusal rate among young people, due in part to a number of forged applications.

The visa offices in Lagos and Abuja were receiving 23,000 visa applications a month, and officials say they will be closed until they are re-organized to improve service.

The ban on entry visas, however, does not apply to students, selected business travelers, or Nigerians whose spouses visited Britain within the past five years.
