British Olympics Champ Kelly Holmes Plans to Retire

update

Double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes of Britain says she will retire after this season. The 35-year-old runner admits to a lack of motivation after winning both the women's 800 and 1500 meter races at last year's Athens Olympics.

Holmes says she hopes to run at this year's World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in August, then make her British farewell at the Sheffield grand prix on August 21. She left the door open for competing at the Commonwealth games in Melbourne next February.

Holmes said she has nothing left to prove to herself after winning a total of 13 medals from Commonwealth Games, Olympics and European championships.

Throughout her career, Holmes has persevered despite numerous injuries. Considered Britain's best ever woman athlete, she says decided to hang up her track shoes soon only a couple of weeks ago.
