American golfer Tim Petrovic has captured his first PGA Tour title with a sudden death victory at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Petrovic sank a seven-meter birdie putt on the final hole of regulation Sunday to tie fellow American James Driscoll at 13-under-par 275. Driscoll missed a putt on the first extra hole, allowing Petrovic to make his from one-meter away.
Masters runner-up Chris DiMarco, a playoff loser in the past two majors, missed the playoff by one shot to end in a third place tie with fellow American Lucas Glover.
Petrovic was twice a PGA runner-up, at the 2002 St. Jude Classic and the 2003 Pennsylvania Classic. Petrovic is the fourth first-time US PGA winner on tour this year.
