Princess Diana Fountain Reopens

A security guard watches as hundreds of people turn up to enjoy the re-opening of Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, London
The memorial fountain in London honoring Princess Diana has reopened after a four-month closure for repairs and safety upgrades.

Located in London's Hyde Park, the fountain now has stricter rules for visitors, more safety features and additional personnel on duty.

The estimated $360,000 renovations included improved drainage and wheelchair-accessible paths.

When the memorial first opened last July, visitors were allowed to wade in the fountain. Within days, several people were injured after slipping on the memorial's slick granite, forcing it to be closed and a roughened surface to be installed.

Friday's reopening was a low-key event, compared to last year's grand opening attended by several royals. No members of the royal family attended Friday's event.

Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
