Car Bomb Explodes in Madrid

A car bomb has exploded in the Spanish capital of Madrid, slightly injuring at least eight people.

Police say the early morning explosion occurred Wednesday, following a warning call from the Basque separatist group, ETA.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero condemned the bombing, saying the only fate for the terrorist group is for it to lay down its weapons and dissolve.

The bombing comes one week after Spain's parliament approved a plan by Mr. Zapatero to open peace talks with ETA, provided it renounces its decades-old campaign of violence.

The terrorist group has been blamed for the deaths of more than 800 people since the late 1960s, when it launched its terrorist campaign for creation of an independent Basque state in southwestern France and northern Spain.
