AC Milan, Liverpool Face Off for Champions Title

Istanbul hosts a major European football (soccer) final for the first time today when Liverpool plays AC Milan in the European Champions League final.

Liverpool has won the trophy four times but is in the final for the first time since 1985 when 39 fans, most of them fans of Italy's Juventus, died when a riot caused a wall to collapse in Heysel, Belgium.

Milan has won Europe's most important football trophy six times before, with the last time two years ago against Juventus.

The winning club gets more than the Trophy - this year's champion also takes home more than eight million dollars in bonuses.

A sell-out crowd of 70,000 fans is expected to watch the match (beginning at 1845 UTC) along with hundreds of millions of fans worldwide on television. Security is tight for the match, with nearly 10,000 police on duty to prevent any fan trouble.
