Sorenstam has already won the Nabisco Championship and LPGA Championship tournaments. A win this weekend would bring her closer to a feat that no golfer - male or female - has ever accomplished.
This year's U.S. Open will take place at the Cherry Hills Country Club in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado. At 6,142 meters long, it is the longest course in the tournament's 60-year history.
For Sorenstam, it is the first time in 10 years that she has played in the state of Colorado, where she earned her first U.S. Women's Open title in Colorado Springs in 1995.
She successfully defended her crown in 1996, but has not won the tournament since then. If she can do so this year, the Swede will only have to win next month's Women's British Open in order to be the first golfer ever to hold all four major titles in the same year.
