Fifteen-year-old American amateur golfer Michelle Wie is tied with reigning British Open champion Karen Stupples of Britain and American amateur Morgan Pressel for the lead at the U.S. Women's Open in Colorado.

Wie fired a 1-over-par 72 and is tied with Stupples and Pressel at 1-over-par 214 for the tournament. Stupples fired a 2-under-par 69 in the third round while Pressel shot a 1-under-par 70 Saturday.

South Koreans Birdie Kim and Young Jo are tied with American teenager Paula Creamer one stroke off the leaders at 2-over-par 215.

World number one golfer Annika Sorenstam of Sweden, who is trying to win her third major tournament this year, fired a 2-over-par 73 and is 6-over-par 219.

If Wie or Pressel wins this tournament, they would be the youngest winner in U.S. Open history and only the second amateur ever to win the event. South Korea's Se Ri Pak won the tournament at age 20 and Catherine Lacoste was the only amateur to win it in 1967
