Three Kenyans Cleared of 2002 Terrorist Attack on Hotel

A Kenyan judge has acquitted three men of conspiracy in a pair of terrorist plots in 2002, including a deadly attack on an Israeli-owned hotel.

The judge ruled Monday there was not enough evidence linking the men to the suicide car bombing of the Paradise Hotel in Mombasa, which killed 15 people, including three Israelis and 12 Kenyans.

The men were also cleared of a plot to shoot down an Israeli jetliner that had just taken off from the Mombasa airport the same day as the hotel bombing. The plot failed when a shoulder-fired missile failed to hit its target.

Osama bin Laden's al Qaida terrorist network claimed responsibility for both incidents.

Four other men charged in connection with the hotel bombing were acquitted by another judge earlier this month.
