Ethiopia's UN Peacekeepers Block Road in Pay Dispute

Some Ethiopian troops have been stopping cars and buses near the town of Fiche to protest alleged delays in pay for service in the United Nations peacekeeping force in Liberia.

Witnesses say the protest involves one army brigade that returned from Liberia two months ago. The troops say they were promised about $1,000 per month for their duties, but only received about $1 per day.

Ethiopian Information Minister Bereket Simon confirmed the incident near Fiche, some 120 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, but declined further comment.
