Afghan officials say 10 policemen have been killed in an ambush by suspected Taleban rebels.
The officials say the attack occurred late Saturday during a routine patrol in southern Helmand province near the border with Pakistan. They say some of the victims were killed during a gun battle, while at least six policemen were captured, then beheaded.
The news comes a day after a purported Taleban spokesman claimed that rebels had killed a missing U.S. commando. The U.S. military dismissed the claim and said it continues its search in eastern Kunar province.
Meanwhile, in Kabul, at least one rocket exploded early Sunday near the heavily fortified compounds of the U.S. embassy and the NATO-led peacekeeping force, causing damage but no injuries.
No one has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.
