Hurricane Emily Weakens But Remains Threat to Jamaica

Weather forecasters say Hurricane Emily has weakened slightly, but should regain strength as it moves toward Jamaica and the western Caribbean.

The U.S.-based National Hurricane Center says Emily is now a Category Two storm, with winds of 165 kilometers per hour. Experts expect the storm to maintain that level for 24 hours before regaining strength.

At last report, the hurricane was approximately 565 kilometers southeast of Kingston and moving toward the west at about 32 kilometers per hour.

A hurricane warning has been issued for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. The eye of the storm is expected to pass just south of Jamaica late Saturday.

Thursday, Emily pounded Grenada with heavy rains and high winds. At least one person was killed.
