Sri Lanka Blacklash Deflates Windies Cricket Team


Sri Lanka's cricket team has taken a 148-run lead over the West Indies on the second day of the second test match in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene shared an 89-run partnership at Asgiriya Stadium on a day when rain forced play to be abandoned 26 minutes after tea.

Sri Lanka reached 146-2 on top of its first innings score of 150 all out. Sangakarra had 46 not out while Jayawardene was 38 not out for the home side.

The West Indies scored 148 runs all out in its first innings after resuming at 92-5. Chaminda Vaas took six wickets while allowing only 22 runs, the 11th time he has taken five wickets or more in an innings.

The Caribbean squad is without some of its top players, who did not travel to Sri Lanka because of a contract dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board. Sri Lanka leads the series, 1-0 after winning the first test in Colombo by six wickets.
