A Yemeni cleric who bragged about his ties to Osama bin Laden has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for conspiring to support and fund the al-Qaida and Hamas terrorist groups.
A federal judge in New York also fined Sheik Mohammed Ali Hassan al-Moayad $1.25 million.
Al-Moayad was secretly recorded promising to funnel cash to Hamas while talking with federal undercover agents in a German hotel room in 2003.
U.S. District Judge Sterling Johnson called the conversations "chilling." Judge Johnson said al-Moayad's ties to bin Laden and Hamas required a stiff sentence.
Al-Moayad was arrested in Germany in 2003 and later extradited to the United States.
