Saudi Arabia to Release 1,200 Yemeni Prisoners

update

Reports from Yemen say Saudi Arabia has agreed to free 1,200 Yemenis imprisoned in the kingdom on various charges.

The state-run Yemeni news agency, Saba, Friday said President Ali Abdullah Saleh telephoned Saudi Arabia's newly crowned King Abdullah to thank him for ordering the amnesty.

Last week, the Saudi monarch pardoned five Saudis who were jailed for calling for political reforms in the kingdom, as well as several Libyans who were held over a suspected plot to assassinate him in 2003.

King Abdullah came to power earlier this month following the death of King Fahd.
