London's Metropolitan Police Review Use of Deadly Force Policy

London's Metropolitan police are making only minor changes to their policy on the use of deadly force against suspected terrorists after a review of the killing of an innocent man.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the review and the changes, but said the operation remains essentially the same. She did not elaborate.

The review follows the July 22 incident in which police officers shot and killed a Brazilian man, Jean Charles de Menezes, whom they wrongly suspected of being a suicide terrorist.

Meanwhile, police also denied a report in a London newspaper, The Daily Mail, that they had offered $1 million in compensation to the dead man's family.

Friday, a family spokesman accused London Police Commissioner Ian Blair of trying to stop an official probe into the shooting and again called for his resignation.

Commissioner Blair has denied the allegations and said he will not step down.

Some information for this report provided by AFP and Reuters.
