French President Urges Iran to Reconsider EU Nuclear Offer

French President Jacques Chirac has urged Iran to reconsider a European offer of incentives in return for Tehran's suspension of parts of its controversial nuclear program.

During a speech in Paris, Mr. Chirac said unless Iran accepts the economic, technical and political assistance deal to halt uranium enrichment, the United Nations Security Council "will have no other choice but to take up the matter."

Talks between Iran and Britain, France and Germany broke off last week after Tehran said it had resumed enriching uranium, a process which can be used in nuclear weapon production.

Tehran says it is still willing to hold further talks and will present new proposals for ending the nuclear dispute within one month.
