President Alejandro Toledo has launched a program to provide cash assistance to at least 60,000 poor Peruvian families.
Mr. Toledo says the program called "Together Now" (Juntos Ya) will disperse $30 a month to the families in Peru's poorest Andean areas.
The Peruvian leader says those receiving the assistance will be responsible for taking their children to school, having them vaccinated and registering for a national security card.
