An Indonesian woman in Jakarta has died of what authorities suspect may be bird flu.
Indonesian Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari said Sunday that the 37-year-old woman died late Saturday in a hospital in south Jakarta. She had been suffering from pneumonia and flu-like respiratory problems since September 6.
Ms. Supari says initial blood samples tested positive for the deadly H5N1 strain of avian flu, with more tests under way.
Bird flu has killed 63 people in Asia since late 2003. If confirmed, the death in Jakarta would be the fourth recorded in Indonesia.
