Ghana and Ivory Coast have earned their first berths to football's World Cup tournament, but Nigeria has failed to make the tournament in African qualifying.
Ghana qualified thanks to a 4-0 win over the Cape Verde Islands in Praia, giving the Ghanaians the Group-2 title. Ivory Coast booked its place in Germany next year with a 3-1 win over Sudan in Omdurman, giving the Ivorians the Group-3 crown.
Togo won the Group-1 title with a 3-2 win over the Republic of Congo in Brazzaville. This is the first time Togo has been to the World Cup.
Nigeria failed to win Group-4 when Angola scored a 1-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali. Even though Nigeria won its match over Zimbabwe, 5-1, Angola won the group because of a better head-to-head record against Nigeria. Next year will mark Angola's first appearance in the World Cup.
In a late match, Tunisia played Morocco to a 2-2 draw in Rades to become the fifth and final African qualifier. Tunisia needed only a draw while Morocco needed to win the match to win its group. Only the group winners in Africa advance to the World Cup.
