Colombian Police Find Rockets Aimed at Presidential Palace

update

Police in Colombia have found what appear to be homemade rockets aimed at the presidential palace during a raid on a home in downtown Bogota.

President Alvaro Uribe told local media Wednesday that several tubes filled with explosives were discovered late Tuesday, pointed at both the palace and a nearby military base.

He did not say whether police made any arrests, nor how they decided to raid that particular house.

The president made a public appeal for Colombian citizens to alert authorities to any terrorist activities.

The incident comes a day after a leading senator, who supports President Uribe, survived a bomb attack on his car. The senator was unharmed, but three of his bodyguards were among nine people injured.
