Ukraine's top prosecutor says he has proof that President Viktor Yushchenko's dioxin poisoning during last year's election campaign was an attempt to assassinate him.
Prosecutor General Sviatoslav Piskun made his comments in Kiev during a meeting with members of the reformist party Pora, which played a leading role in helping Mr. Yushchenko win the presidency last year.
The prosecutor did not elaborate. But Mr. Yushchenko has repeatedly called the poisoning an assassination attempt.
Mr. Yushchenko fell seriously ill shortly after having dinner in September with agents of Ukraine's security service. His face became bloated and pockmarked and doctors said he suffered from dioxin poisoning. The illness prevented him for campaigning for weeks.
