Rescue workers in India are struggling to deliver food and water to at least one million people in villages cut off by floods in the state of West Bengal. At least 14 people have been killed.
Officials say more than half the people in four coastal districts affected by the flooding are marooned in submerged villages. The worst affected regions are East Midnapore and the Sunderbans districts off the Bay of Bengal.
Two rivers in the Sunderbans region overflowed their banks in the past week after six days of continuous rain, flooding hundreds of villages and farms.
West Bengal officials say many roads have been washed away, and relief could not reach many villages.
The unseasonal rains following the July-September monsoon caught many by surprise.
