Zimbabwe's main opposition leader has asked the Supreme Court to scrap President Robert Mugabe's 2002 election victory.
Lawyers for Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, have asked the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court ruling last year which refused to nullify the presidential election result.
Part of the earlier challenge involved the president's amendment of some electoral laws days before the 2002 election which opposition lawyers said amounted to abuse of power.
The Supreme Court said it would rule on the petition - but did not say when.
The opposition charges that President Mugabe, in power since independence from Britain in 1980, won the 2002 poll through widespread rigging and violent intimidation.
Mr. Mugabe denies the charge, saying he won the election fairly.
