The annual Baseball Hall of Fame ballot has been announced, and the all-time Major League Baseball hits leader is not listed. This year was the last possible chance for Pete Rose to appear on the ballot. But disgraced by gambling on baseball, Rose was banished from the sport in 1989.
This year would have been the last of 15 years Rose would have been eligible for election to the shrine.
On the ballot are former Cy Young Award-winning pitchers Orel Hershiser and Dwight Gooden. They are among 14 eligible newcomers. Also on the ballot for the first time is Ozzie Guillen, who managed the Chicago White Sox to the World Series title this season.
Results will be announced on January 10.
