A one-day strike in northern Bangladesh has shut schools and businesses, as people protested against last week's suicide bombing that killed eight people in Netrokona.
The attack occurred despite the nationwide security crackdown in effect since a series of bombings began in August. So far, nearly 30 people, including two judges, have been killed.
Meanwhile, in the capital Dhaka, opposition activists demanded the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia for what they called its failure in tackling Islamic militancy.
On Saturday, a bomb explosion near Dhaka's diplomatic area slightly wounded at least one person.
Although no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, police blame the outlawed militant group, Jumatul Mujahedin Bangladesh, which wants to impose strict Islamic law in the Muslim-majority, but secular, country.
