A Nepalese soldier has opened fire on a crowd of villagers at a Hindu festival near Kathmandu, killing at least 11 people and wounding 19 others.
The incident happened around midnight Wednesday near the tourist resort of Nagarkot.
Nepal's army says the soldier began shooting after an argument with villagers. It says the soldier also died, but did not say how.
Witnesses say the soldier, who appeared to be drunk, killed himself.
Scores of people demonstrated against the shooting Thursday morning outside a Kathmandu hospital where many of the injured are being treated.
The Nepalese army, which is battling almost a decade-old Maoist insurgency, is frequently criticized for human rights abuses by its soldiers.
