US Judge Orders Accused Nazi Demjanjuk Deported to Ukraine

A U.S. immigration judge has ordered retired Ohio auto worker and accused Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk deported to his native Ukraine.

Judge Michael Creppy Wednesday rejected Demjanjuk's argument that he would be tortured in Ukraine. Demjanjuk can appeal the ruling.

The 85-year-old Demjanjuk has been fighting to stay in the United States since 1977 when he was accused of being the notoriously brutal Nazi death camp guard known as "Ivan the Terrible."

The United States deported him to Israel, where he was tried, convicted, and sentenced to hang. But his sentence was overturned when someone else was identified as Ivan.

Demjanjuk returned to the United States, where he was stripped of his citizenship when he was found to have been another Nazi death camp guard.

Demjanjuk has denied all charges against him.
