U.S. women's soccer team captain Kristine Lilly has played in her 300th international match and led the United States to a 3-1 win in the Four Nations tournament in China.
Lilly scored the first U.S. goal in the 73rd minute when she curved a free kick around Norway's wall from just outside the penalty area. It was Lilly's 105th career goal and tied her with Michelle Akers for second on the all-time U.S. women's list.
Four minutes later, the 34-year-old midfielder passed to teammate Shannon Boxx, who headed the ball in to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead.
Norway's only goal came in the 82nd minute when Trinne Ronning scored on a penalty kick. American Abby Wambach added an insurance goal three minutes later to seal the win.
In the day's second match, host China played France to a 1-1 draw. The U.S. women meet France in their second match January 20.
