Egypt Releases 260 Muslim Brotherhood Members

Egyptian authorities have released 260 members of the opposition Muslim Brotherhood.

The detainees had been held since parliamentary elections late last year, which were marred by violence that killed at least eight people.

Egyptian police had detained more than 600 members of the banned group in connection with election violence. Most have since been released, but deputy leader Mohamed Habib told the Reuters news agency more than 80 people remain in custody.

Candidates supported by the Brotherhood won 88 of 444 contested seats in Egypt's parliament. Only the ruling National Democratic Party claimed more seats.
