US, Iraqi Operation Nets Weapons, Suspected Insurgents

U.S. military officials in Iraq say U.S. and Iraqi troops have ended a nearly two-week operation in the Western Euphrates River Valley.

The U.S. military said Saturday 45 weapons caches were destroyed and 20 suspected insurgents were detained during Operation Wadi Aljundi. Military officials say no U.S. or Iraqi soldiers were killed.

Separately, the international rights group Human Rights Watch says that Iraqi government interference is threatening the fairness of the Saddam Hussein trial.

The U.S. based group Friday said demands for the resignation of former presiding judge Rizgar Amin amounted to an attack on Iraq's judicial independence.

Amin quit earlier this month under heavy criticism for not being firm enough in his handling of the former Iraq dictator. Saddam's trial is expected to resume Sunday.
