Argentina Extradites Alleged Bosnian Serb War Criminal

update

Argentina has placed an alleged Bosnian Serb war criminal on a plane to be extradited for trial at The Hague.

Officials said Milan Lukic was taken to the airport today in Buenos Aires, where he has captured last August.

Lukic is to stand trial at the U.N. International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Bosnian Muslims in 1992. Prosecutors say he was a member of a brutal paramilitary group in eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina during the conflict.

Last month, a Serbian court sentenced Lukic in absentia to 20 years in prison for kidnapping and killing a busload of Bosnian Muslims.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and AP.
