Nigeria International Book Fair to Highlight HIV/AIDS and Sustainable Development

update

Nigeria’s international book fair is scheduled for next month and organizers say this year’s themes will be HIV/AIDS and sustainable development. The 5th Nigeria International Book Fair will be held at the University of Lagos from May 8th through the 13th.

Bose Adetunji is executive secretary of the Nigeria Book Fair Trust. From Lagos, she spoke to English to Africa reporter Joe De Capua about the themes of HIV/AIDS and sustainable development.

“It’s an acceptable philosophy that an educated society is an asset to the world at any point in time. However, the education without a healthy citizenry is nothing. So, it’s a blend of the two most important aspects of human life which we’re looking at. In this part of the world, the literacy level is on the increase. We’re moving up.”

Adetunji says that she looks upon the increase in literacy and better awareness about educational policies as aiding development in Nigeria.
