Gunmen Kill 3 Policemen in Pakistani Tribal Region

Pakistani officials say gunmen have attacked a security post in a remote tribal region near the Afghan border, killing three policemen.

Officials say the attack took place late Wednesday night in the Bajaur tribal region, some three kilometers from Afghanistan.

Police are investigating the incident.

Militants linked to the Taleban and al-Qaida are active along Pakistan's porous northwestern border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan has deployed about 80,000 troops to its tribal regions to root out foreign militants and their local allies.

Ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been strained by militant activity in the border regions.
