Bush Accepts Credentials of Iraqi Ambassador to US

President Bush has accepted the credentials of Iraq's ambassador to the United States.

Mr. Bush accepted the credentials of Samir Sumaidaie Tuesday at the White House. The president said he looks forward to working with him to help Iraq become self-governing and in a position to sustain and defend itself.

Ambassador Sumaidaie said terrorists may be able to target the innocent, weak and vulnerable, but they will not be able to stop the establishment of a free and democratic Iraq.

The diplomat had previously served as Iraq's ambassador to the United Nations.
