Early Monsoon Rains Kill 66 in India

update

Indian officials say the death toll from monsoon rains has risen to at least 66 people in the past week, as thousands of others were forced to seek shelter in makeshift relief camps.

The seasonal rains have moved in earlier than expected, submerging roads and damaging buildings. Authorities say southern and western states were hit particularly hard.

Last week, heavy downpours hammered the commercial and entertainment center, Bombay, (also known as Mumbai), causing train delays and power outages. At least 17 people were injured when a wall collapsed in the city.

Indian meteorologists are expecting more harsh weather and damaging conditions.
