Chinese Media: 93 People Killed in Torrential Rains in Southern China


Chinese state media say 93 people have been killed in torrential rains that have pounded southern China over the past two weeks.

The official China Daily reports Saturday another 11 people are missing and nearly 12 million people have been affected by the weather in nine provinces, regions and municipalities.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs told the newspaper at least 560,000 people have been evacuated to avoid the danger from rain, floods and landslides. The ministry estimates the region has suffered nearly $1 billion in economic losses.

Fujian province was the hardest-hit area.
