National Football League Super Bowl champion quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers is having surgery for injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
Roethlisberger's motorcycle collided with a car near a downtown Pittsburgh intersection late Monday morning. He was thrown over the handlebars and hit his head on the windshield of a car.
Doctors at Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh say Roethlisberger is in serious but stable condition. He suffered a broken jaw and sinus cavity, a 23-centimeter gash on the back of his head, lost a number of teeth and injured his knees when he hit the pavement.
Roethlisberger was not believed to be wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.
