The United Nations Security Council has extended the mandate of the organization's peacekeeping mission in Burundi for six months.
In a statement, the Council cited continuing instability for the extension. U.N. troops will now remain in the central African nation through the end of the year.
Burundi's government is struggling to recover from a 12-year civil war, triggered by the 1993 assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye.
In recent weeks, the government and the last remaining rebel group (the National Liberation Forces, or F.N.L.) have been negotiating a peace deal.
Talks have stalled over the issue of army reforms.
