Forecasters say Tropical Storm Bopha is slowly moving in the South China Sea in the general direction of Taiwan.
The Hong Kong Observatory said early Tuesday Bopha is expected to gradually strengthen over the next two days as it makes its way west toward Taiwan. Bopha means "Flower" in the Cambodian language, Khmer.
The official Chinese Xinhua news agency said Monday Tropical Storm Bopha is threatening China's southern Fujian province.
China has endured six typhoons this year.
Last week, Typhoon Prapiroon killed at least 80 people in southern China and forced nearly one million others from their homes.
The region is still recovering from Tropical Storm Bilis, which killed at least 600 people, and Typhoon Kaemi, which killed at least 30 people last month.
