Pittsburgh phenom Sidney Crosby scored with just four seconds to go as the Penguins edged the New York Rangers in an exciting National Hockey League contest Thursday.
Nineteen-year-old Crosby scored the winning goal on a power play with New York captain and former Pittsburgh star, Jaromir Jagr, in the penalty box. Crosby also assisted on three goals for the Penguins. The score was tied three times from the end of the second period until Crosby netted the game winner in New York.
Edmonton's Ryan Smyth scored three goals in two minutes and one second in the third period to lead the Oilers 6-4 over the San Jose Sharks. Smyth's timely hat trick broke NHL hall-of-famer Wayne Gretzky's franchise record for fastest three goals by 17 seconds.
The Devils got three goals from Brian Gionta, and another in a post-overtime shootout to slip past the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-6.
The Flames, Blues, Wild, Blackhawks and Stars also won Thursday.
Ottawa goalie Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 33 shots in the Flames' 1-0 shut out of the Ottawa Senators. The St. Louis Blues won a shootout to beat the Boston Bruins 3-2, the Minnesota Wild remain undefeated with a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals, and the Chicago Blackhawks snapped a third period tie to knock off the Nashville Predators 3-1. Also, the Dallas Stars trounced the Los Angeles Kings 4-1.
