Israeli Troops Kill 2 Palestinians in Gaza Strip


Israeli troops have killed two Palestinians in separate incidents in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli officials said soldiers opened fire at an armed Palestinian man approaching their position in northern Gaza Saturday.

Elsewhere, troops shot at a group of suspected militants, killing one teenage boy. Three other Palestinians were wounded.

Overnight, Israeli warplanes launched a series of air strikes in Gaza as part of Israeli efforts to stop rocket attacks into Israel.

In an interview, Israel's new deputy prime minister, Avigdor Lieberman, said Israel should take control of the border between Gaza and Egypt to block the flow of weapons.

Meanwhile, Palestinian factions continued talks on forming a new unity government.

Leaders of the ruling Hamas militant group and Fatah are seeking to form a moderate government that will be accepted by Western nations.

U.S. and European donors cut off aid money after Hamas took control of the government following elections this year. Washington accuses Hamas of being a terrorist group.
