NFL: Seahawks, Colts Win Opening Playoff Games

The Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts have advanced to the quarter-finals of the U.S. National Football League playoffs.

Seattle came from seven points down in the fourth quarter to win a thrilling 21-20 contest Saturday against Dallas. The visiting Cowboys appeared set to win the game with a short field goal with little more than a minute remaining. But the ball was fumbled before the kicker could reach it, and the Seahawks escaped with the one-point victory.

Seattle next faces either the Chicago Bears or New Orleans Saints in a National Conference playoff game.

Earlier Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 23-8. Kicker Adam Vinatieri had three field goals, and quarterback Peyton Manning threw a five-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to lead the Colts.

Indianapolis next takes on the Baltimore Ravens in an American Conference playoff contest.

In Sunday's wild-card round games, the New York Jets take on the New England Patriots, and the New York Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles.
