Official Of Zimbabwe Opposition Faction Hospitalized After Road Crash

update

A senior official of the faction of Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change led by Arthur Mutambara remained hospitalized on Monday following a car crash on Saturday in which Mutambara, at the wheel, escaped serious injury.

Mutambara faction Deputy Secretary General Priscilla Misihairambwi Mushonga was being treated for internal injuries, sources in the political grouping said.

Three others, including the head of the women’s assembly of the MDC branch, Hilda Sibanda, escaped serious harm in the accident on a country road.

Automobile accidents involving opposition members or critics of the government tend to be closely scrutinized based on suspicious incidents in the past.

Mutambara faction spokesman Gabriel Chaibva told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that foul play could not be ruled out considering that the tire which burst was new and that the car was traveling at a low speed.
